music, creativity, and other things i'm currently loving

Photography

I got into photography about four years ago, through yearbook at my high school. I joined as a writer and was asked to shoot a football game because we were short staffed. Having little to no camera experience, I went onto the field and did what I could. Our teacher took one look at my SD card and moved me from writing to photographer. I learned so much and ended up being the lead photographer and winning "Photo of the Year". I began taking my camera everywhere and photographing everything. I enjoy nature and concert photography the most. I have been hired for a few graduation photo shoots and even a one-day festival that was such a cool experience.

Makeup & Visual

I have always loved makeup, specifically editorial makeup. Watching old fashion shows, and seeing all the fun colors and shapes incorporated in the makeup was always my favorite part. My skills, however, are a little unconventional. I don't know much about foundation, concealer, and all that stuff, but eye shadow and colors are my bread and butter. I like to draw inspiration from social media or Pintrest. I usually do the makeup, on myself since I sometimes take a long time to achieve the right look.

Music

Music has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Fun Fact: I was actually named after the song "Dear Prudence", by The Beatles. Growing up, my dads vinyl collection was constantly on rotation with artists and bands like Queen, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Twisted Sister, and Radiohead. I would say because of him, I am a very eclectic music lover. I tend to lean more towards indie rock, Latin, and bedroom pop. As a physical media lover, I have a CD and vinyl collection that I am constantly expanding. One of my favorite things to do is go to small town resale shops and pick through their CD's to find new artists. As part of my goal this year, I am intentionally listening to international artists.

Here are a few of my recent favorites...

Leo Middea Brazilian Singer/Songwriter Freguesia de Arroios
ミドリ Japanese punk/jazz band ゆきこさん

Books

I was a big reader when i was younger, and have decided to dedicate more time to doing so now. Coming of age, memoirs, and horror are my favorite type of books to read. John Green was one of my favorite authors growing up, with books like "Looking for Alaska" and "An Abundance of Katherines" being my personal favorites. "Desperation" and "Misery", both by Stephen King, are books I have reread more than once. Unlike some people, I quite enjoy rereading books. Often times I find it gives me a better understanding of how things played out, after knowing the ending. Currently on my reading list is:

I have been getting recommendations from Instagram because I can get authentic reviews through mini summaries and hear from other readers with similar preferences.
