Hi, my name is Prudence Mesquiti. I am currently an undergraduate student at Texas State University studying Digital Media Innovations. I was born and raised in San Antonio, not too far from San Marcos. I have always been drawn to creation, especially with physical media. I enjoy creating things with all mediums but have a niche for mixed media. I recently turned 21 in December, and have been prioritizing my growth in this new year. I have gotten back into reading and kept up with my photography while exploring new places. I have made it a goal this year to explore media from foreign countries, to diversify my knowledge. I am looking forward to learning about new cultures through music, books, film, and however else I can.
My first experience with media targeted work was my freshman year of high school. International School of the Americas is a magnet school specializing in global studies. We had a class called DiM (Digital Media) where we explored technology and how it can be used in outreach and community engagement. We explored social justice topics, storytelling, community focused issues, and much more. I fell in love with media as a means of connection. I went on to take more media based classes like Photojournalism and Audio & Video Production. I joined yearbook my senior year and grew a fondness for photography.
When I first came to Texas State, I honestly had no idea what I wanted to study. At the end of NSO, they had us check-in to registration. I had no idea what to do and asked the person at the front, what they thought would be a good fit. "Try Digital Media Innovations, see if you like it," they said. I blindly took their advice. Looking back, I am glad I did. I have had so many great opportunities to learn and create. We are living in a time where media as a whole is constantly evolving, and I have enjoyed how my classes are adapting to the changes. We are learning with the curve, and how we can use media in our works rather then let it do the work for us.
